  • In this course, students may read short stories, poetry, plays and novels.  Learning activities include a variety of oral and written analysis.  This class satisfies the literature requirement but is not recommended for a college bound student.

  • The goal of Strategic Literature is the remediation of reading deficits for secondary students who otherwise would struggle with the demands of the secondary curriculum.

Strategic Literature focuses on comprehension skills but also targets vocabulary development and fluency in both fiction and nonfiction textual materials.  The course is designed specifically for middle and high school students who are reading below grade level.

  • Eighth grade is a time for transitions. Our students are quickly moving from children to young adults who will be undergoing the change to high school in a matter of months. As 8th grade teachers, we assist with this transition by allowing students to take on more personal responsibility for their actions and assignments.

In 8th grade English we do a few units in accordance with the Advanced English class, such as reading novels like The Outsiders and The Giver, but we take a more teacher-centered approach where the students are given the opportunity to explore ideas with my guidance.

  • Advanced English at the 8th grade level aligns with the Advanced 9th grade English offered at the high school. Eighth grade is a time for transitions and decisions.  As 8th grade teachers, we assist with this transition by allowing students to take on more personal responsibility for their actions and assignments. This class offers students a chance to try Advanced English for size before going onto Advanced 9th grade English in a more cushioned environment.

In Advanced English, we do a few units in accordance with the regular 8th grade English class, such as reading novels like The Outsiders and The Giver, but continue beyond the curriculum in exploration for original ideas and new ways to look at the given.

This class is generated to employ the students to think for themselves and be a leader in their own education through presentations, leading discussions, research, and in-depth conversations.
